Everything you need to know about the Reveal exploration experience
Unlike traditional maps that show everything upfront, Reveal uses a 'fog of war' mechanic similar to strategy games. You start with a foggy map that only reveals areas as you physically explore them, creating a personalized exploration experience that encourages real-world adventure.
Yes — Reveal is completely free during early access, with no credit card required. We follow a freemium model (like Strava or Bikemap): the core experience stays free, and optional premium features will arrive later. Founding explorers who join now will be rewarded with founder perks when premium launches. If you'd like to support development today, visit our Support page.
Yes — this works today! Reveal imports GPX, FIT and KML files from any GPS watch, phone or fitness app, plus your entire Google Timeline from Google Takeout. You can also connect your Strava account to sync activities automatically. Every imported track lifts fog, earns XP and counts toward achievements.
Yes — our native Android app is in beta testing right now! It adds live GPS track recording and an offline fog map, with the full gamification experience on the go. Alpha testers get the free APK through our Telegram community. iOS is not available yet — follow us to hear first when it lands.
As you upload tracks, Reveal automatically detects points of interest along your path — castles, peaks, museums, waterfalls and more, across 35 categories. Each discovery earns XP, rare places are worth more, and special collections (like the Seven Wonders) unlock unique achievements.
You earn XP for uploads, distance, elevation, POI discoveries and community engagement. XP levels you up and unlocks profile badges. There are 50+ achievements covering milestones like your first track, total distance, countries visited, streaks and rare discoveries.
Stay active daily to build your streak — and earn freeze tokens at milestones that automatically protect your streak if you miss a day. There are weekly streaks too, plus a dedicated streak leaderboard for the most consistent explorers.
Absolutely — and it is live today! Follow other explorers, give kudos and comment on tracks, and watch the community activity timeline. Every explorer also gets a public profile page showing their revealed map, stats and achievements (with full privacy controls if you prefer to keep things private).
The web app needs a connection, but the Android beta app caches your profile, map and tracks locally — so you can record and review adventures even in remote areas, and everything syncs when you are back online.
The Android beta app uses an efficient foreground recording service designed to be battery-friendly, with crash recovery so a dropped session never loses your track. As with any GPS recording, very long sessions use more power — a typical day hike is no problem.
Not yet — historical journey comparison (Marco Polo, Magellan, Lewis & Clark and more) is on our roadmap. It's one of the features we're most excited about; check the Roadmap page for the current plan.
You do. Each track has privacy controls (public, friends-only or private), you can export all of your data at any time (GDPR-compliant), and account deletion removes everything. No lock-in, ever.
